Spectrum is celebrating its one year anniversary

Spectrum Markets, the pan-European trading venue for securitised derivatives, is celebrating its 1-year anniversary this month. Since inception, the platform has seen trading volumes increase each quarter and recently reached a milestone of a million trades on the platform within the first 11 months, pushing the overall volume of traded products to over 300 million.

Spectrum has introduced a number of unique features since launch, designed specifically to meet the changing demands of clients and their retail investors across Europe. The company was the first to offer 24-hour trading, 5 days a week. This has proved extremely popular, with around 40% of trades being placed out of hours. Through the members already connected to the venue, Spectrum was also the first to enable a single ISIN to be traded simultaneously across multiple European countries. In combination with intraday issuance, which was launched in April this year, it meant that for the first time customers were able to trade without borders and more flexibly manage their portfolios.

Commenting, Nicky Maan, CEO of Spectrum Markets said: “We have set out an ambition to revolutionise a trading landscape that didn’t offer the level of accessibility, flexibility, security and transparency demanded by retail investors. We want to make a real difference by re-imagining the ways that retail investors access markets.”

“Our first year coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic, which brought with it extreme macroeconomic uncertainty and unprecedented volatility in the markets. I am proud of the way that our staff have risen to the challenge, and that our platform has remained resilient and robust. We look forward to continuing to extend our product offering and distribution capacity, and to keep developing features that further improve the retail trading experience.”

Spectrum Markets is a pan-European marketplace where retail investors can invest in structured products via their brokers. From its launch, trading has been available in 9 countries: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Ireland and Belgium.
