At Spectrum Markets, sustainability has informed and will continue to inform the way we shape our business, and as we grow, we commit to working together with senior stakeholders, employees, the trading community and local communities towards a better future for all. We are using the UN Sustainable Development Goals, a global blueprint to achieve a better and sustainable future for all as a framework for our Corporate Social Responsibility. Out of the 17 goals, we have shortlisted 3 to support at launch.
Given the unprecedented events of 2020, we have chosen to focus our efforts on helping vulnerable communities to maintain good health and well-being, as health has never been more important. We have selected to support a range of charities with this in mind, and will continue to do so in the future.
Spectrum is here to pave a better way for retail trading, lighting up the markets with new innovations and breaking free from traditions and existing legacy systems with their inefficiencies. For this very reason, we signed a partnership with Sightsavers at the beginning of the year. Sightsavers is an international charity working to prevent avoidable blindness, support equality for people with disabilities and advocate for change. Our vision to light up the markets for retail trading, we wanted to extend to global communities, in this case, to children in Nigeria, and their future.
A global problem worth solving
Globally 2.2 billion people have a vision impairment and of these, at least 1 billion people have a vision impairment or blindness that could have been prevented or is yet to be addressed. This burden weighs more heavily on underdeveloped countries, and on marginalised communities. Projections show that global demand for eye care is set to surge in the coming years.
Making an Impact
Sightsavers has been protecting sight and reducing the number of children who are going needlessly blind for over seven decades. Since its foundation, Sightsavers has:
Amazing results from the first half of 2021
The first half of 2021 has seen many challenges and obstacles for the Sightsavers team from the pandemic restrictions to security concerns on the ground. With this is mind we are incredibly proud to share the amazing results that Sightsavers with our support have achieved in the first half of 2021.
How we're helping
Spectrum is supporting Sightsavers’ Nigeria Childhood Blindness project to:
- Give children with visual impairment access to eye health services – starting with the training of teachers to increase the number of children who will have access to eye health services.
- Provide access to tertiary eye health facilities – by supporting the refurbishment and equipping eye health facilities and support the training of clinical and non-clinical staff in child eye health. The development of health centres and trained paediatric teams will bridge the existing gaps in child eye health in the three underserved states.
- Work with the national government to strengthen the provision of paediatric eye health services.
Together, we hope to reduce the number of children who are going needlessly blind, and give them back the future they deserve.
The Goethe Corona Fund
The Goethe Corona Fund is a joint initiative between the Goethe University and the University Hospital Frankfurt am Main. We donated funds to acquire protective equipment for medical personnel and research development in mainly virology and intensive care medicine.
The Caritas Association Frankfurt
The Caritas Association is active wherever people need help and support in Frankfurt – be it men or women, old or young. We donated funds and protective masks to a shelter for homeless people to help in Covid times. The Spectrum team also joined the staff at one of the shelters to hand out the masks.
We also wanted to contribute to a joyful Christmas, despite the restrictions that were in place. We donated funds and presents to support disadvantaged families over the festive period, and hopefully brought smiles to the little ones.
Caritas of the Cracow Archdiocese
Extending our support with similar donations to assist with much needed funding during the Covid pandemic and over the Christmas period. We donated protective masks to the organisation, and for Christmas donated funds and presents to support disadvantaged families.

Premiers de Cordée
Premiers de Cordée works on raising awareness on disability and using sports in hospitals to help hospitalised children. We donated funds to the organisation to contribute to amongst others, the purchase of “Station 4”, that supports rehabilitation, mobility, bodybuilding and weight loss at the hospital.
